As children we are our true selves. We are unhindered, unafraid of who we are and what we dream and think. As we get older we begin to stack layer on layer, hiding who we really are underneath. Building to who we'll become but most of the time losing sight of who we are at the core in the process. The world tells us that dangerous thoughts and ideas have no place in our society. That we must become mundane and live in a world that’s safe.
We weren’t built for safety. We are animals. Our thoughts deep down are just that..thoughts. It’s ok to think them. Just because you think them doesn’t mean you’re going to act on them. In fact, doing so may save you in certain situations, where you can live through the consequences and better understand your decision instead of tucking it away to let it eat at you forever. Having thought through a dangerous act, realizing the consequences could save you from acting on it in real life. It could save you heartache. It could save someone else heartache.
Yes, entertaining these ideas can be dangerous, you could stumble upon an edge that you can’t turn back from. If so, so be it. Pursuing who you really are, and what you really want out of life, will teach you so much about who you want to be. The more we know about ourselves the more we can empathize with others. We only get one go around. Being who you were meant to be in this life is the noblest of pursuits.
The world is not black and white, neither are our minds. That is wonderful. We don’t all fit into the mold that society has placed upon us and that is ok. It does not make us bad people. Understanding that and being ok with being different is something we should all strive for. We are who we are and that is fucking beautiful.
